Meet the Authors

Payroll help would not be the site it is without the following people, please feel free to leave comments of thanks here but no questions please, that’s for another arena like the forum for instance.

Ian Holloway MSc, FCIPP

Ian comes to us with nearly 25 years’ experience in the payroll profession.  In a varied career, he has worked within the payroll environment at all levels, from administrator to manager, ’hands-on’ to ‘hands-off’, in-house to payroll bureau and now writer and lecturer.  With this wide range of experience, Ian is comfortable at all levels and feels competent to be able to represent the payroll profession in his role at The Learn Centre.

Ian is enthusiastic about promoting payroll as a career of choice and is a successful CIPP Diploma graduate who also holds the MSc in Payroll Management through Derby University.  He is hugely motivated to be part of team focusing on communicating and educating fellow professionals and looks forward to working with The Learn Centre at the start of a significant and important time for the payrollers, given the forthcoming changes in our profession.

Ken Gurr FCIPP Minst LM

Ken has over 40 years experience as payroller, payroll trainer, and writer. Because of this experience he has been included on a number of HMRC and governmental consultation panels. In 2001 Ken was awarded the Jean Strathearn Award for Lifetime Achievement in Payroll and in 2009 was CIPP Practitioner of the year. Ken is also the Education Director here at The Learn Centre.

Bob Patchett BA(Hons) FCIPD MCMI

Bob is a talented and prolific HR writer with articles appearing all over the world, he spent the majority of his career heading up the HR functions of two major conglomerates before in 1988 setting up his own HR consultancy practice. Eventually The Learn Centre were lucky enough to persuade him to use his extensive experience to write for their HR Newsletter.

Ian Congreave FCIPD FCIPP

Ian’s first calling was not actually payroll, or payroll writing, prior to that he had a long distinguished career as a Personnel manager for a large PLC. Ian is perhaps one of the most knowledgeable payroll writers around, with experience writing first for Paypershop and then The Learn Centre and Payroll Help. He is one of perhaps a tiny minority to become a Chartered Fellow in both the CIPD and the CIPP.
