How’s your manpower planning? Not got an up-to-date manpower plan? Oh dear, you could be caught out and have to face problems because you have insufficient staff to meet a change or increase in demand, or worse, have to carry out a redundancy exercise. So have a look at the business plan for the next twelve months. Are you likely to need more or fewer people? If more, of what type, and how will you obtain them? By recruitment or training? Create a training plan now, and note in your diary when to begin planning a recruitment exercise. Even if your level of business is likely to remain the same, look at past records to predict turnover. And redundancy? If you are going to need fewer people, can you freeze recruitment and instead retrain employees? Start doing all this now before a problem catches you unprepared. At work particularly, a planned life is a more contented one. So think an act now.
