Jersey Minimum Wage Rates
Tuesday, March 13th, 2012Whilst we are on the subject of Minimum Wages….
The Employment Forum consulted in 2011 looking at the economic impact of the Minimum Wage in Jersey. Its role is to provide recommendations to the Social Security Minister regarding any changes to be made and the method used for any uprating.
The Forum released its recommendation on 27 September 2011, proposing a 2.5% increase to £6.48, effective 01 April 2012. This recommendation follows similar percentage increases to the Minimum Wage increases applied in the UK and Guernsey and a general increase in average earnings at the same rate. The Forum also recommended:
- No introduction of a ‘youth rate’. The Full or Trainee rate will continue to be applied to employees over compulsory school leaving age
- A 2.5% increase to the Trainee rate
- A 2.5% increase to the limit on amounts that may be taken into consideration for the provision:
- Living accommodation
- Food and living accommodation (3 meals a day)
- A change to the calculation of the offset which can be applied to trainee rates for the provision of:
- Living accommodation
- Food and living accommodation (3 meals a day)
This offset is calculated as a maximum of 75% of the full offsets
