Questions from our forum 16/12/2011Thursday, December 15th, 2011
The following is a selection of questions that have been posted to our Forum over the past week. Can you contribute to any of the discussions?………….
- Employer recovering credit card payment from employee exclusive of VAT – Is this a benefit and should it be reported on P11D?
The employer pays a credit card fee on the employee’s behalf, but recovers the amount through their salary. However, the amount recovered is exclusive of the VAT at £6.00. Is this a benefit that should be declared on the P11D? Or, can it be ignored as the employer can recover this VAT anyway so it is not, actually, a cost to them?
- Reporting relocation expenses
An employee was paid £10,000 in relocation expenses, £2,000 of which were reported on the P11D. The employee has since decided not to relocate and is leaving the company. Do I have to report the other £8,000?
- Maternity Leave and Due Date
Can an employee start her maternity leave AFTER the date that the baby is due?
- Taxation of Backpay
I have a large number of people who are due backpay. Is it taxed at the time that it is paid or do I have to recalculate previous tax years?
- P46(Car) – Part 5 Fuel for Private Use
I have always been slightly confused about the contradictory nature of the two questions on the old hard copy P46(car). The first question “Is fuel for private use provided with this car?” is straightforward enough but if the answer to this is yes, then under what circumstances would the answer to the second question “if yes, must the employee pay for all fuel used for private motoring….?” be yes as well? Why would the employee pay for fuel after free fuel is provided?
