Civil disorder, agency workers, holiday pay for shift workers
Tuesday, August 23rd, 2011Other than the normal annual increases to the National Minimum Wage, there are relatively few payroll-related legislative changes from 1 October 2011. One is the introduction of the Agency Workers Regulations, bringing entitlement to equal terms and conditions after a 12-week qualifying period. In Northern Ireland, however, as covered in this week’s newsletter, the new agency worker’s rights take effect from 5 December. There is one other change from October – the final end of the “default retirement age” rules which required employees to request to continue in employment after age 65 if they wished to do so.
