Digital by default, taxation of air miles, holidays for starters

Monday, August 15th, 2011

This week’s newsletter describes HMRC’s plans, as set out in a new consultation document, to extend its online facilities even further.  We also look at a P11D-related question that HMRC has not seriously answered before – is there a reportable benefit when employees accumulate air miles or other rewards simply by booking their business travel personally?  What do you think?  We review HMRC’s newly-published answer.

What do you do to prevent new employees taking too much of their annual holiday entitlement too soon?  Our Employer FAQ this week explains the statutory solution to the problem but you can, if you wish, tell us about your controls at the end of our article on this subject.
