Monthly Brainteaser and July’s Answer

Thursday, August 11th, 2011

Last month we said that an ancient Greek philosopher posed the question:  “What is broken if you speak its name?”. Our editor must have misheard because we actually got the riddle from a Christmas cracker. And the answer is – Silence. Hmm.

Well, this month try this:

An old farmer lay dying. He had twin sons who did not get on with each other so he wanted his estate to remain intact and not be divided between them. Also he was not happy with his sons’ fast pace of life. He therefore gave each son a horse and told them to ride to the market, five miles away. The owner of the slowest horse would inherit the whole estate.

The sons ambled around all day until they were saddle-sore and hungry. Then they saw a wise old man and asked his advice. He gave it and their problem was solved.

What did he tell them?

Answer next month. Meanwhile enjoy the sunshine.
