HMRC helpline for employers affected by civil disorder

Tuesday, August 23rd, 2011

HMRC provides a dedicated helpline for businesses and individuals affected by the recent civil disorder.

A dedicated Civil Disorder helpline has been introduced by HMRC to provide advice and support for customers experiencing difficulties caused by the recent riots and looting.  HMRC will:

  • agree payment schedules with those unable to meet payment deadlines due to short-term financial difficulties, and
  • discuss practical solutions where businesses and individuals cannot meet other obligations, such as the loss or destruction of their records.

In these circumstances, and whenever possible, HMRC will review any penalties imposed and withhold additional surcharges that would normally be triggered by missed deadlines.

The helpline number is 08453 661207 and operates every day between 8 am and 8 pm.
