Weekly summary

Monday, July 25th, 2011

Yes, most of this week’s news items feature current pensions issues, in particular the newly published draft regulations on the operation of automatic enrolment, which will now start in July 2012, not October 2012.  Some of the staging dates have changed as a result, so you need to look at the revised schedule to see if you are affected.

Is anyone out there tasked with the job of writing guidance for employees on what “auto-enrolment” will involve?  If so, get some language guidance from the DWP and make yourself clearer.  Should you, for example, actually call it “auto-enrolment”?

For some light relief, if pensions are not your thing, ponder on whether the deductions, which you make when employees have taken more holiday at termination than they should, are, in fact, unlawful.

And, why not check your payroll knowledge on the subjects currently under discussion on the forum!
