Is it just me or do you think that there is something wrong about imposing a charge when someone pays off a loan early?  That is what the Government is proposing to do when students make extra repayments towards their loans.  See if you can make sense of the Government’s reasoning.

This week we also report on responses by DWP and HMRC to earlier consultations, one relevant to choosing an auto-enrolment pension scheme, the other on repaying tax debts by tax code adjustments.

Three recent Forum questions could benefit from your own payroll experience.  How do you handle employer pension contributions under a salary sacrifice scheme when the employee is on long-term sick?,   Do you pay for KIT days when they occur or when the employee returns from leave? If an employee voluntarily relocates for the duration of a temporary assignment and this saves the employer a lot of money, would you tax an ex-gratia payment made by the employer towards the removal costs?.
