HMRC focusing on compliance, new HMRC Advisory fuel rates and Consultation on abolition of 36 tax reliefs
Monday, June 6th, 2011Ian Congreave, who normally writes this Newsletter is taking a well-earned break and I am covering for Ian for the week.
The message coming from HMRC is definitely one of “focus on compliance”, see for yourself by clicking on the latest news link from the HMRC Home Page you will notice that all of the items are about compliance, success in tackling compliance and penalties. And, it is not just large organisations that are being targeted. Every indication is that HMRC have their own shopping list of businesses they are going to focus on and for some it will even come as a surprise that they are running a business. Initially HMRC announced they were focussing on the restaurant trade in London and then Scotland and the North West. They have now announced that they are taking a very close look at those who sell on eBay, so, are any of our readers unwittingly running a business from their own home?
This week also sees the release of a consultation document promised by the Chancellor on the abolition of 36 tax reliefs and changes to the Advisory Fuel ates
We look forward to Ian’s return next week.
