Monday, June 13th, 2011Are you aware of the demands of the Bribery Act that comes into force on 1st July? – yes, just days away! You may believe that this sort of thing does not affect you and the people you work with. Indeed the Justice Ministry has indicated that it does not expect a rush of prosecutions because the Act in the main clarifies the law rather than introduces new swingeing restrictions. So you can still accept that ball-point pen from a supplier and you can still take a customer out for a pie and a pint. But if you deal with anything financial you may come across something that could cross the line and contravene the Act. You should therefore have a look at the Act and the Guidance note put out by the Justice Ministry and pay particular attention to the need for risk assessments and training. Here you can download the Guidance note. Not an inspiring read, but one that you must explore.
