HMRC comments on P9s, employer packs and Basic PAYE ToolsFriday, March 11th, 2011
The following is an extract from the latest weekly informal updates (dated 4 March) from HMRC to employer representatives.
1. Annual coding message for employers
I can confirm that we started processing P9 Coding Notices on 1 March. We expect the bulk of these P9s to reach employers via our e-channels by 10 March as previously advised in Weekly Update number 50. Employers who have chosen to receive their coding notices on paper will receive them a little later.
2. Employer annual mailing and Orderline
The mailing to 1.3m employers and a staggered email broadcast to another 170K employers started last week and is due to complete by 4th March. These advise employers that HMRC is no longer issuing employer packs and that, instead, employers need to access information, tools, forms and guidance on the web. The Orderline has seen an increase in calls as employers receive the letters and emails, but so far this is only around half the calls the Orderline received this time last year http://www.businesslink.gov.uk/payeformspublications
3. Basic PAYE Tools
We launched the new Basic PAYE Tools (formerly the Employer CD-ROM) on 15 February. In the first 13 days more than 11000 employers downloaded the tools from the Business Link website. This is very encouraging – as we increase our publicity and we head towards the end of the year and the start of 2011-12, we expect the numbers to rise considerably. Information about the tools and the downloadable files for Windows, Mac and Linux users can be found at http://www.businesslink.gov.uk/basicpayetools
