HMRC plans corrections to P11D Working Sheets

Friday, March 18th, 2011

Two weeks ago we described the errors that we had found with three of this year-end’s P11D Working Sheets.  The following is an extract from the latest weekly informal update (dated 11 March) from HMRC to employer representatives.

Basic PAYE Tools

We are aware of recent reports on some payroll industry websites and forums that there are problems with the Basic PAYE Tools (formerly the CD-ROM) specifically relating to P11D working sheets. Though the problems are not as widespread as reported, nevertheless we would like to apologise for any inconvenience caused to our customers who are working hard to fulfil their PAYE obligations.

The Basic PAYE Tools provides the P11D working sheets in 2 formats – ‘with save’ and ‘without save’. The ‘with save’ option, which is part of the P11D wizard, is working correctly. However the ‘without save’ option is unfortunately providing incorrect answers.

We have now designed a fix for this problem which we have thoroughly tested and we are now working with our IT partners to get a corrected version of the Basic PAYE Tools published on the Business Link website as soon as possible.

The Basic PAYE Tools has an update feature installed so that each time the user starts the application it will check to see if there is a more up to date version available. The user then has the option to update to the latest version. This is always the recommended action from HMRC.
