Questions from our forum 10/02/11
Monday, February 14th, 2011Each week we receive a number of payroll questions on our forum, and here are this week’s batch. Can you help with any answers?
Forum posts:
I recently had to have a day off sick as my daughter was unwell and unable to attend school. When I received my payslip it was less than my normal monthly salary (as expected) but there was no record of the deductions made. I queried this with my employers who rang the Sage helpline to sort it out.
It transpired that she had deducted it incorrectly and the payslip was re done and the deductions recorded this time. She left a note for me to say “This is correct!”
Further questions from our forum:
- A higher-paid employee on maternity leave wants to join the childcare voucher scheme before April so as not to lose the full tax relief. Can she?
- My P800 states that I owe £8,500 tax. I have had tax code BR for two years now, despite being liable for tax at 40%. Can I argue it was the employer’s fault? Or HMRC’s fault?
- We have finished paying SMP to an employee and she now has 28 days paid holiday to take before April. Can I pay her holiday pay now?
- How should I assess the earnings of salesmen paid a basic salary + commission in order to determine tax relief entitlements from April for childcare vouchers?
