In our first newsletter of the new year, it is to be hoped that we will hear nothing more about tax code 0T until HMRC’s guidance booklets for 2011/12 are published in a few weeks.  We have summarised all of the situations where 0T will be used, including another last-minute change!

It has been a while since the 48-hour opt-out has been in the news but the latest news from the European Commission should provide some encouragement for those who have campaigned strongly for it to be retained.

Other news items this week are aimed at promoters and users of tax avoidance schemes, umbrella companies and temp agencies with travel expense schemes, and employers with employees in or from Hong Kong.
