How long can I delay my staff from taking holiday?
We have recently had some employees leave the company, we have decided not to replace them.
We have adequate staffing levels until a member of staff goes on holiday – then we are understaffed so have made the decision to reject holiday requests. Also we are treated Lieu days the same way and delaying giving these too.
Some weeks ago a member of staff (employee X) requested some holiday for dates next month – the request was rejected. We gave the reason that it was a busy period. The member of staff has now requested the following week as holiday – which we have rejected. I suspect the member of staff will continue to make requests which we will reject. Is there a time limit on how long this can go on for or are we within our rights to keep doing this as long as we see fit?
We have a few weeks in mind we might pick to assign as holiday weeks, but we don’t want to tell employees that now as they are likely to be unhappy with waiting that long for holiday.
My question is regarding if there is anything to stop me delaying my staff taking holiday? Are there any time limits or requirements for what is and isn’t reasonable in this situation?

SMP and redundancy
A pregnant employee is being made redundant. They are due to be paid maternity pay as their qualifying week for SMP is before the last date of employment. Their maternity leave would have commenced after the last day of employment.
BUPA deduction
Please let me know if BUPA deduciton is to be made pretax and preNI?
Calculating NMW
Our sales staff are paid a basic salary just below the NMW, topped up by commission. We make any necessary adjustments each month, but can we do it each year instead?
