New benchmark scale rates for business travel abroad
Friday, November 12th, 2010Since February 2008, employers wishing to use scale rates to administer travel expenses have been required to set the rates by means of a sampling exercise. The sampling method is inappropriate in many cases for determining scale rates for employees who travel outside the UK as most employers do not have enough such employees to undertake a meaningful sampling exercise.
As a result, HMRC undertook to publish acceptable scale rates for most countries abroad that may be used in place of producing expenses receipts. They are revised annually and the latest tables of rates from October 2010 are now available at the link below.
