Increase to Grade 1 Agricultural minimum rate from October 2010
Monday, September 27th, 2010Minimum agricultural rates of pay are reviewed annually by the Agricultural Wages Board for Northern Ireland. The anniversary date is the first Monday in April each year. As minimum agricultural rates may not be set below the equivalent National Minimum Wage (NMW) rates, the Grade 1 minimum rate (applicable to workers age 16 and above for the first 40 weeks cumulative employment) is usually fixed at a little over the adult NMW rate. From 5 April 2010, the Grade 1 hourly rate was increased to £5.90, 10p per hour higher than the adult NMW rate at the time.
As the adult NMW hourly rate increases to £5.93 from October, the Agricultural Wages Board has increased the Grade 1 rate only to £5.93, effective from the first pay reference period starting on or after 1 October 2010. There are no changes to the Grade 2 to 6 rates.
