Employer CD-ROM 2010 – Urgent September UpdateMonday, September 13th, 2010
Employers using the CD-ROM database must install the September update immediately to prepare for the 2011/12 Basic PAYE Tools.
HMRC issued the first Employer CD-ROM in advance of the 1998/99 tax year. The CD-ROM issued for use in the 2010/11 tax year is to be the last.
In its place, a set of PAYE tools – to be known as Basic PAYE Tools – will be made available in February 2011 to download, with versions available for Windows, Mac and Linux computers. There will be no annual Employer Pack sent to employers by post.
Employers currently using the database facilities provided on the 2010/11 CD-ROM must download and install the September 2010 update to the CD-ROM in order to ensure that it will be compatible with the new PAYE tools. HMRC’s announcement describes this as “vitally important”. This latest update must be installed even if any of the earlier updates to the 2010/11 CD-ROM have been installed. The link for downloading the September update is provided below. When installed, the updated system will state “September Updated Edition” in the top right-hand corner of the Home Page.
Employers without an Internet connection or otherwise unable to download the September update or the 2011/12 Basic PAYE Tools may order a CD-ROM by calling HMRC’s Employer Orderline on 08457 646 646. Employers may also register to be notified by email when the Basic PAYE Tools are available to download.
