Weekly Summary and Forum Highlights 002

Wednesday, August 4th, 2010

This week there are further developments on abolition of the default retirement age and two issues related to the National Minimum Wage. The major topic, however, is HMRC’s discussion document on the reform of PAYE. By April 2012, we could be sending pay, tax and NICs information online to HMRC every time we pay an employee. By April 2015, HMRC could have taken over the calculation of tax and NICs for every employee. We have provided a summary of the proposals in this week’s newsletter but, if possible, try to find the time to read the full document. It is not a long document but the implications of the proposals are both considerable and controversial.

If you would like to share your views, we have opened up the subject on the PayPerShop Forum. This week’s newsletter summary is factual and does not express my reactions, or anyone else’s opinions, on the proposals. So, what issues can you think of in the context of your payroll operation? The Learn Centre would like to make its own submission to HMRC with practical observations and constructive criticism. Can you help? Tell us what you think by visiting our forum.
