HMRC Signs Contracts with Debt Collection Agencies

Tuesday, August 3rd, 2010

HMRC has announced that contracts have been signed with four commercial debt collection agencies (DCAs) with the objective of recovering around £140 million of tax debt during 2010/11. This included outstanding PAYE tax and NICs owed by employers.
The June 2010 Budget announced that, following a successful pilot, DCAs would be used to pursue lower value debts, operating under industry and HMRC standards.
Before a debt is referred to a DCA, HMRC will write to the debtor providing a final opportunity to pay or reach an agreement with the department.
