Magistrates’ Allowances – Financial loss allowances from May 2010
Monday, July 19th, 2010A new schedule of allowances for magistrates (Justices of the Peace) in England and Wales, who are not paid for their absences by their employers, took effect from 1 May 2010. However, the financial loss allowances are unchanged from those that took effect from 1 May 2009.

The rates for employed magistrates are set at 80% of the self-employed rates in order to reflect the 20% basic rate of tax. Magistrates are also entitled to claim travelling and subsistence allowances.
