We have just two news items this week, both rather specialist – one relates to employment status for NICs purposes in the education sector, the other for sponsors of migrants under Tiers 2, 4 and 5. We mentioned HMRC’s new PAYE Desktop Viewer (PDV) a couple of weeks ago and had hoped to review it when it became available to download. It provides a new facility for employers to download tax codes and other notices in bulk. However, we could not get the software to download so we will review the facility when we can actually try it out. Our Employer FAQ this week looks at another aspect of employment status – the different rules that apply to “employees” and “workers” for PAYE and employment rights purposes.
