25th Annual Payroll Conference and Awards Ceremony – A resounding success!

Sunday, September 20th, 2009

The thrilling surrounding of Alton Towers Theme Park resort played host to the Institute of Payroll Professionals 25th Annual Payroll Conference and Awards Ceremony on the 15th – 17th September.

The main aim of the industry’s premier three-day event, held at the theme park’s Conference Centre, was to provide those who work in payroll with continuing education by teaching them about legislative changes, professional development and industry best practice. It also created a perfect environment for individuals to network and share ideas with fellow professionals, speakers and exhibitors.

The conference programme consisted of over 20 workshops, learning sessions, training courses, and a ‘Caribbean’ inspired dinner as well as the 6th Annual Payroll and Pensions Excellence Awards.

The wide range of workshops allowed delegates to tailor their time at the conference to suit their needs. Whether delegates were new to the industry or responsible for payroll at a strategic, managerial or specialist level, there was something for everyone.

Plenary sessions and workshops were delivered by some of the industry’s most notable and influential figures and covered the latest trends and issues affecting the industry.

Categories included:

  • Payroll during the recession
  • Contractual expenses and benefits
  • Payroll management
  • Strategic payroll
  • Public Service Pensions
  • Legislation updates
  • Skills for payroll

Speakers at the event included Phil Nilson, Employer Strategy Manager at HMRC and number one in Payroll World’s top 50 most influential payroll figures 2009, and Sean Orford, a fully qualified and accredited Occupational Psychotherapist.

The Caribbean dinner on the 15th of September included an authentic hog roast followed by entertainment from a steel drum band and limbo dancers. The event provided a great opportunity for attendees to network with peers, speakers, exhibitors and the IPP staff.

The highlight of the event was the 6th IPP Payroll and Pensions Excellence Awards Ceremony held on 16th September, with over 250 attendees. This prestigious event provided the occasion for payroll and pensions professionals to be recognised for their outstanding achievements over the last year. Hosting the awards was TV personality Roy Walker.
